Dr. Andrew Igwe Visits Legendary Groundnut Seller “Ogadi Papa” at His Country Home in Erema
In the spirit of the Yuletide season, marked by love, gratitude, and benevolence, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dr. Andrew A. Igwe Care Foundation, Dr. Andrew Igwe, paid a special appreciation visit to the renowned groundnut seller, Ogadi Papa, popularly known as “Enye Unu,” at his country home in Erema Community on January 2, 2026.
Ogadi Papa became widely known across communities for his unique style of selling groundnuts, characterized by generosity, kindness, humour, and a genuine concern for people. He was particularly admired for freely giving groundnuts to children and individuals who could not afford to buy them, always accompanied by smiles, jokes, and words of encouragement.
During the visit, Dr. Igwe reflected on his childhood memories and the lasting impact of Ogadi Papa’s generosity.
“During my childhood days, Ogadi Papa's generosity made him stand out among other traders. If he had not finished selling his bags of groundnuts, others would struggle to sell theirs. This earned him the title ‘Enye Unu’—meaning ‘The One Who Gives Plenty.’
His groundnuts were often more than those of other sellers, yet he still gave so much away for free. To me, this represents a remarkable level of love, selflessness, and charity. Such individuals deserve to be remembered and honoured because they inspire others. In many ways, Ogadi Papa's example contributed to my passion for charity and humanitarian service today,” Dr. Igwe stated.
He further noted that many people once believed Ogadi Papa's business success was the result of charms or supernatural means. However, according to Dr. Igwe, his success was simply rooted in his kindness, generosity, and cheerful disposition.
“People were always drawn to his stand because they knew they would not leave empty-handed. Whether you had money or not, there was a good chance you would go home with groundnuts. His generosity attracted people more than any marketing strategy could,” he added.
In response, an emotional and surprised Ogadi Papa expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Igwe and his entourage for the visit and recognition.
“I dedicated 49 years of my life to selling groundnuts, moving from one community market to another on their market days, especially in Akabuka Community where I lived at the time. I never wanted anyone to go home without groundnuts because of a lack of money.
I never imagined that the little groundnuts I freely gave to people, especially children, with laughter and jokes, would be remembered many years later to the extent of receiving gifts and recognition. I am deeply grateful,” he said.
Ogadi Papa offered prayers for Dr. Igwe and his team, asking God to continue to bless and protect them as they journeyed back safely.
The visit served as a reminder that acts of kindness, generosity, and selfless service leave lasting legacies. It also highlighted the importance of appreciating individuals whose positive actions have impacted lives and communities.
As Dr. Igwe noted, doing good and giving to others should be part of everyday life because no one knows where or when the rewards of kindness may return.
