DR. Andrew A. Igwe Care Foundation Donates Trophies to GSS Akabuka, Promises New Classroom Boards
The long weekend beginning on Friday, May 1, 2026, turned into a moment of celebration and joy at GSS Akabuka (UBE) as the Founder and CEO of the DR. Andrew A. Igwe Care Foundation, Dr. Andrew A. Igwe, hosted members of the Purple House and the school staff to officially receive the trophy won during the school’s recent inter-house sports competition.
Recall that the Purple House, sponsored by Dr. Andrew Igwe, emerged victorious at the inter-house sports competition held on March 25, 2026, at the GSS Akabuka playground. During the event, the school principal, Elder Blessing Onuoha, highlighted several challenges facing the institution, including the lack of sporting facilities and the fact that the trophies used for the competition had been borrowed.
Moved by the situation, Dr. Igwe generously donated a brand-new set of trophies to the school, declaring that there would be “no more borrow borrow” for future sporting events.
Speaking on behalf of the staff and students, the principal expressed heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Igwe and the Foundation for their continuous moral, physical, and financial support to the school, Akabuka community, and beyond. She also acknowledged the Foundation’s annual scholarship program, which has benefited numerous students across the community.
Also speaking at the event, Elder Christian Chinedu Okwu praised the Foundation for its humanitarian efforts across the 17 communities of the Egi clan. He described the Foundation as a blessing to humanity and prayed for God’s continued blessings upon Dr. Igwe.
In another appeal, Mr. Hartman Odu drew attention to the poor condition of classroom blackboards, stating that students could hardly see what teachers wrote during lessons.
Responding immediately, Dr. Igwe promised that the Foundation would replace the damaged classroom boards once the school management decides on the preferred type of boards needed. He also encouraged teachers to remain committed to their duties by being regular in school and dedicating themselves to nurturing the younger generation.
As part of the celebration, Dr. Igwe further announced four scholarship slots for the best-performing students in the Purple House.
The day also featured a meeting between Dr. Igwe and members of Umuga Progressive, a body of Akabuka elites led by Rtd. Dr. Elekwachi. Discussions centered on the unity, growth, and development of the Akabuka community.
The memorable event concluded with jubilation, refreshments, and appreciation from students, staff, and community members.
