DAAICF Conducts 15th Annual Scholarship Examination, Expands Educational Opportunities

The Dr. Andrew A. Igwe Care Foundation (DAAICF) recorded another major milestone on August 7, 2023, as it successfully conducted its 15th Annual Scholarship Examination, providing new opportunities for academically talented but financially disadvantaged students across Egi Kingdom and beyond.

The examination, held at Government Secondary School Akabuka (GOSSAK Varsity), Akabuka Town, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, attracted students from various communities who competed for scholarship opportunities at both secondary and tertiary education levels.

For fifteen consecutive years, the Foundation has remained committed to supporting education through its scholarship programme, helping hundreds of students pursue their academic dreams and secure a brighter future.

The examination featured candidates from seventeen communities, with each community presenting four students to compete for a single scholarship slot in the secondary school category. Similarly, the four zones of Egi Kingdom each presented four tertiary-level candidates to compete for one scholarship position per zone.

The exercise was closely observed by parents and guardians, who commended the transparency, fairness, and credibility of the examination process.

A notable highlight of the event was the active participation of the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, Dr. Andrew A. Igwe, who personally engaged with candidates by encouraging them, distributing examination materials, and monitoring the process.

Also present at the examination was former OYM President and Founder of Leybrave Hotels and Resorts, Comrade Kingsley Ogu, who attended to witness the conduct of the exercise and lend his support to the initiative.

In a significant development, the scholarship programme expanded its reach beyond its traditional coverage areas, with Ohiuga Community producing a beneficiary for the first time. This marked another step in the Foundation’s efforts to broaden access to educational support across Ogba land.

The Foundation also demonstrated its commitment to inclusiveness by awarding an Automatic Scholarship to a physically challenged participant. The gesture was intended to encourage persons living with disabilities not to allow physical limitations hinder their educational aspirations and pursuit of excellence.

The examination was diligently supervised and invigilated by members of the Foundation to ensure a fair and transparent process.

At the conclusion of the exercise, successful candidates and their parents expressed satisfaction with the outcome, describing the examination as one of the most transparent and fraud-free scholarship examinations they had ever witnessed.

The examination resulted in the addition of:

  • 23 Scholarship Beneficiaries in the Secondary School Category

  • 11 Scholarship Beneficiaries in the Tertiary Institution Category

These beneficiaries joined the growing list of students whose education has been supported through the Foundation’s scholarship programme.

The event also featured the presentation of transportation allowances to participants, light refreshments, scholarship award letters, and a photo session to celebrate the successful conduct of the programme.

As the Foundation continues to invest in education and human capital development, it remains committed to its mission of empowering lives and creating opportunities for young people to succeed.

The programme once again reinforced the Foundation’s guiding principle:

“In all you do, put humanity first.”
